If you’re expecting a clinical treatment room, clipboards, or a deep dive into your personal history, let’s clear that up straight away.
A hypnagogic light therapy session is nothing like traditional talk therapy; and that’s very much the point.
When you arrive at my Hurstpierpoint space, the first thing most people notice is how calm their body feels before anything has even begun. There’s no pressure to explain yourself. No expectation to perform vulnerability. You are welcome exactly as you are; tired, curious, overwhelmed, sceptical, hopeful, or all of the above.
We’ll have a brief, grounding check-in so you understand the process, then you’ll lie back comfortably as the Lucia No.3 hypnagogic light is positioned above you. Your eyes remain closed throughout. The light does the work, not you.
As the session begins, rhythmic pulses of light gently guide your brain into the hypnagogic state - the threshold between waking and dreaming. This is where the nervous system softens, the analytical mind steps aside, and the brain begins to self-organise. Many people experience flowing colours, geometric patterns, memories, emotional releases, or a profound sense of peace. Some feel euphoria. Others feel stillness. There is no “right” experience.
Importantly, you do not need to talk. You don’t need to relive trauma. You don’t need to explain your pain for it to be valid. The body and brain already know what to do when given the right conditions.
After the session, we allow space to gently return.
Some people like to share reflections.
Some prefer silence.
Both are welcome.
You’ll leave feeling lighter, clearer, and often deeply rested, as though something has quietly reset beneath the surface.
